Thinking Ahead

Write a Will

If you haven't already done so, write a Will.  Even if you think you don’t have much of value,  it makes life so much easier for those left behind if there is a Will in place.  It doesn’t have to be complicated.  There are offers every year allowing you to write a Will with the guidance of a solicitor, in return for a donation to charity.  It’s that easy.  Make sure your Will is signed and witnessed, and kept in a safe place where it can  be easily found, ideally with your family solicitor.

Getting your affairs and possessions in order

We all have too much stuff !  Whether it’s utility bills we’ve kept for the last 40 years, or a collection of trinkets that’s been hiding in the attic for decades, these things prey on our minds and need dealt with.  Being surrounded by clutter impacts on our mood and wellbeing, as well as making it difficult for others to understand what's important to us.  Read my blog for more details.  Maybe you are trying to get your affairs in order but don’t know where to start.  It can be completely overwhelming, and having someone to support you who is not emotionally involved; who can help you make decisions about what to keep and what to let go of,  can be a great help.

Getting rid of things is easier when you can find a good home for them or give them to someone who will use and cherish them.

I am great at de-cluttering !  I can help you sort through your possessions, helping you decide what to keep and what to give away or dispose of.  Finding  a new home for items you've cherished means more than you might think and eases the process of letting them go.

Do you need someone to help you make sense of your paperwork ?

The paperless office is a myth.  I've never seen one yet.  If you spend more time looking for things than doing things, then you need my help to get organised. Whether it's personal or business paperwork that gets you down, I will sort it out for you.

I can help you reduce and rationalise your paperwork and affairs: discarding junk mail and all the irrelevant bits of paper that pile up over time.  Together we can work out a simple filing system that allows you and your family to find important documents easily, cutting out the stress and worry that things are all in a muddle.

Power of Attorney

A power of attorney is a process by which you give someone you trust the permission to make decisions about your money and property,  as well as your health and wellbeing.  It will specify what you would want to happen in the future if you can no longer look after your own affairs.  Always ask your solicitor for legal advice.

It is vital to make sure your affairs are as organised and tidy as possible, so that the person who is your attorney can act on your behalf with clarity, safe in the knowledge that they have full understanding of your affairs and of your wishes.

Have you taken on Power of Attorney for a relative ?  Are their affairs in a mess and you don't know where to start ?

I can help you sort things out.  I will sift through your relative's paperwork; reducing and rationalising it; and dividing it into manageable categories so that you know where to start.
